The process

How to charter a private jet, in four steps

The same advisor stays with the trip from the first message to the arrival FBO. Documentation, dispatch and irregularity handling are managed on your behalf.

  1. Send the request

    Route, date, passenger count and preferred cabin. Add luggage, pets or handling notes if they matter for the trip.

  2. Receive tailored options

    Your advisor checks availability with operators and returns a shortlist of confirmed options. Each option names the aircraft type, tail number and price; availability is secured once the charter agreement is signed.

  3. Approve terms and quote

    Accept the charter agreement and pay by card or cryptocurrency. Agreement, passenger manifest and payment are handled online.

  4. Coordinated through arrival

    Crew briefing, slot filings, FBO handling, catering and ground transfers are coordinated by the same advisor.

The class chosen for your flight is determined by the route length, passenger count, luggage load and the airports in play. Ranges are manufacturer figures in still air with a partial passenger load; a full cabin, headwinds and hot or high airports shorten them. The specific tail is confirmed with the operator at quote.

Empty legs, on realistic terms

An empty leg is a positioning flight — the aircraft would fly without passengers regardless — offered at a reduced rate. The route and airport pairing are fixed and short-notice changes on either side are common. If your schedule is flexible and the origin airport works for you, an empty leg is often the fastest path to a lower price.

Current empty legs are listed on EmptyJet, where they can be booked directly. When timing is critical, a booked charter keeps the schedule under your control.

    We prioritise operators rated by ARGUS (Gold, Gold Plus, Platinum), Wyvern (Wingman) and IS-BAO (Stage 1–3). Ratings are re-checked at trip build.

  • Trip-level verification

    For each flight we confirm crew qualifications and duty limits, aircraft airworthiness release and current hull and third-party liability cover.

  • Continuous flight watch

    The duty team monitors weather, slot changes and technical events, coordinates alternates, and communicates status directly to your advisor.

Practical questions clients ask before booking, answered by our charter desk.

  • It depends on the aircraft, the airports and crew availability. Short-notice requests can be arranged when a suitable aircraft and crew are free; long flights on heavy and ultra-long-range jets need more preparation for crew rest, fuel and permits. Slot-coordinated airports (for example London City, Nice, and New York LaGuardia or Washington National in the US) may require earlier confirmation. The more notice you give, the wider the choice of aircraft.

  • Yes. Private jet hire is the term most used in the UK, while private jet charter is more common in the US and internationally. Both mean hiring the whole aircraft and its crew for your trip, rather than buying individual seats.

  • The quoted charter price includes aircraft, crew, fuel, standard handling and standard catering. VAT and country departure taxes are shown separately where applicable. Discretionary items — de-icing beyond the standard allowance, extended crew duty, extraordinary handling — are listed as pass-through with clear caps.   • We hold operator-provided AOG protection wherever possible: the operator supplies a replacement aircraft in the same category. If that is not achievable in the required window, we source a substitute from the wider fleet and confirm price parity before you re-approve.

  • In most cases yes. Cabin size, destination import rules and paperwork determine the practical answer. For EU–UK, US–EU and Middle East destinations we file the required documentation and coordinate with the FBO on arrival.

  • An empty leg is a positioning flight — the aircraft would otherwise fly without passengers — sold at a reduced rate. The route and airport pairing are fixed and changes on either side (date, time, endpoints) are frequent. They suit flexible schedules; if timing is critical, a booked charter is more predictable.

Checkout shows the methods available for that booking and any processing fee before you pay. The operator issues the invoice; JETUP can accept that payment on the operator’s behalf.

  • Passports valid for the country of arrival, any applicable visas, and, for some jurisdictions, an advance passenger manifest (for US arrivals and departures, eAPIS no later than 60 minutes before departure). For pets, cargo, weapons for sport, or minors travelling without a guardian, additional documents apply — we prepare and check them ahead of the flight.
